Spending an extra day at school at the weekend may not appeal to all teenagers, but 64 Year 8 and 9 girls of very high potential do just that on ten Saturdays each year. The 2007/8 programme started on 3rd November 2007.
It was seen that that there was a need to encourage the girls to communicate outside of the saturday school, to enable a sense of community. It was felt that it was not appropriate to encourage the girls to go onto the more
traditional forms of social networking sites due to concerns around security.
The requirement was to create a simple social networking site, with the ability for the girls to place profiles, some pictures of themselves, to be able to search for other students and send emails to one another. As well as
a document store and blog section on the site. The site is completely closed to those students in the saturday school and this is administrated by the project manager.
